The Photographer Behind the Quirky Photos

Hi, I’m Rae, a slightly weird (in the best way), nature-wandering North Wales photographer based in the ruggedly beautiful hills of Denbighshire. When I’m not holding a camera, you’ll usually find me wild swimming, reading, or being held hostage by my cats.

Through Sea Rae Photography, I create quirky, personality-rich imagery for individuals, couples, families, businesses and anyone else who wants photos that actually feel like them. I’m drawn to character, expression, and the small details that make people interesting. My style is inspired by nature, water, nostalgia, and the odd ideas that pop into my head.

My love of photography began in the most unexpected place, the British Army, where I learned to navigate fast-paced, high-pressure environments with a camera in hand. From photojournalistic coverage of political figures to published features in major outlets (and even a place in the Soldier’s Charity Calendar), those early experiences shaped the way I see light, movement, and unique moments in time.

That same lens led me to Southeast Asia, where I volunteered on conservation projects from turtle rescue in Malaysia to elephant re-wilding in the Thai highlands, immersing myself in storytelling that gave voice to causes I deeply care about. While in Southeast Asia, I spent five months living among a remote Karen Hill Tribe, documenting everyday life in a place where nature and community are everything.

Today, my focus lies in storytelling visuals of people, animals, seascapes and everything in between. Whether I’m photographing a small moment of connection, a portrait that makes someone say ‘actually I do love photos of me’, or a pet that means the world to someone, I believe in the magic of images that stick with you.

My work has most recently been exhibited at The Glasgow Gallery of Photography and The Royal Photographic Society 40% Project, and I continue to create both client and personal projects that draw on my love of the land, light, and all things quirky.
