Why Your Quirks Are The Best Part of Your Photos
You’re too much!
There, I’ve said it. You’re too loud, too quiet, too weird, too nerdy, too hippy, too obsessed with odd little things.
And you should embrace that!
I’ve spent my life being told I’m too quiet and too weird. Well, now I don’t give a damn. I am who I am. I have weird thoughts that pop into my head, like the other day, I was at a reflexology appointment and I suddenly thought ‘Does reflexology work as well if you only have one foot?’ So I went ahead and asked that question.
So whether you’re obsessed with mushrooms, vintage trains, collecting skulls, making costumes (the list is endless), don’t think you need to tone that down for a photoshoot. In fact, if you have any props that represent you or your hobbies, bring them along and we’ll make use of them! The things that make us different are the things that keep us interesting. How boring would it be if everyone liked the same things, dressed the same way and thought the same.
Which brings me on to… You will never see me repeat exactly the same photoshoot twice. there will always be something different about them, even if it’s only a small thing. Because as we are all different, so should our photos be. I spend time getting to know people before their photoshoot because I want each person’s shoot to be unique to them. If having a shoot against a grey or cream backdrop in matching neutral colours is your thing, I’m afraid you’re in the wrong place.
You should get to see yourself in your photos, not somebody you have to pretend to be.
If you’re a business owner who’s nerdy about history, we can go to a castle.
If you’re a classic car enthusiast, we tell the story of your car and your life with it, rather than just pretty pictures of the exterior.
If you’re turning 45 and want epic 80s style gym and Sarah Connor photos to look back on when you’re 55.
If you’re a mortgage advisor with a skater style and covered in tattoos, you want headshots that reflect you, not what corporates think you should be (in a suit).
Then you ARE in the right place.
People remember your quirks, they don’t remember how you tried to fit in. Nobody has ever looked at a photo and wished they looked more generic. Your quirks are always going to be the best parts of your photos.
